SCRAPBOOK: MULTI TALENTED IAN BELCHER

PHOTO SCRAPBOOK
Multi-Talented Ian Belcher

This Scrapbook collection takes a small look at Ian Belcher’s creativity for CBC productions, his exceptional talent in various forms of art, and his work as an actor. All of the photos in this collection were provided by Ian’s widow Maryanne, shortly after he passed away in 2013.

Ian joined the staff of CBC Vancouver in 1956 as an Office Boy and within a couple of months, transferred to the Design Department as a Carpenter’s Helper.  He was promoted within the Design Department to Set Decorator (Props) Stagehand, Stagehand Crewleader, Special Effectsman, Manager of Props/Costumes/Makeup, Manager of Staging Services, Manager of Carpentry/Paint Shop and Co-Ordinating Producer.  Although Ian held several management positions throughout his 26 year career with the Corporation, his first love was the creative part of television.  He returned to that passion in the 1980’s when he handled props for Fred Penner’s Place over the course of six years and in the next decade, handled three years of Shari Lewis Specials before retiring from CBC on April 4, 1997.  That, however, did not end Ian’s career.  He was Props Manager for the Danger Bay TV series for two years and frequently created props for the feature film industry.  Ian passed away on March 23, 2013.

Here is a brief look at the multi-talented Ian Belcher:

Photographs are a wonderful part of memories, and very often they form part of collective as much as individual memories.  That’s what this segment is all about – the memories we share of CBC English and French, Television and Radio productions and the people who have made them happen through the years in either work or social settings.  We hope you will enjoy the collections posted here and will search your own and let us share them too.  If you have just one picture or dozens, send them in!

The supply of photographs that your Stationbreak.ca team has to draw from for new Scrapbook and Flashback postings is running out, so PLEASE, dig out your albums and boxes of photos taken prior to the year 2010 and send in your collections for us to share.  Whether the pictures were captured during filming/taping of productions, in the CBC offices, or at social functions with CBC colleagues on or off the CBC premises, we’d love to have them.  If you’re able to scan and send them via e-mail, that would be wonderful, or if you’re willing to loan the original photos we will scan and return them to you.  Please contact Peggy Oldfield via https://goo.gl/QNvaxu and she will supply her direct e-mail address or contact you to make arrangements for scanning of your photos.  We can’t keep these sections going without your input so, in advance, THANK YOU for taking the time to help us.
