CBC Vancouver Journalist Belle Puri is retiring and at a party arranged by friend and colleague Gloria Macarenko on February 6th to celebrate her career and the next page in her life, colleagues produced a video tribute which Stationbreak.ca has happily been granted permission by Belle Puri and Editor Amar Parmar to share via the link below. It’s a fun look at Belle through the years and to see so many of our colleagues, both those currently with CBC and many from past years. And here's a little info about Belle...
As a teenager, Belle was a Candy Striper at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. and in numerous ways throughout her life she has continued to contribute to and support community health issues. She has served on the Board of the Fraser River Discovery Centre, the Massey Theatre and the CKNW Orphan’s Fund. Her association with Royal Columbian has continued for many years, serving as a Hospital Foundation Board member and from 2009 through 2014 Belle was Board Chair.
Her journalistic career launched in 1977 when she began working for CKNW and BCTV. She joined CBC Vancouver staff in 1992 and in her lengthy career with the Corporation, Belle has been a Reporter for local and national news, been a Host with CBC Radio as well as TV News, and held the position of Victoria Bureau Chief. She has also been a Reporter/Producer with Canada Now and Newsworld.
Belle has been the recipient of numerous awards through the years including the 2002 Jack Webster Award for “Excellence in Legal Journalism”; the 2005 Jack Webster Award for “outstanding journalism”; the 2000 YWCA 15th Annual Women of Distinction Awards in the category of “Communications and Public Service”; the 2000 Centennial Foundation award in recognition of “leadership, excellence and commitment to the vision of an equitable Canada”; the 2022 Canadian Screen Award for “Best Local Journalist”; and the 2024 Bruce Hutchison Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing her work of “long-standing significance”.

Reporter Belle Puri has been a staple of B.C.'s journalism scene for nearly five decades, much of it at CBC. She has covered local news, health and business, even serving a stint as the Victoria bureau chief and the host of the afternoon radio show. As she heads into retirement, On the Coast's Gloria Macarenko had her in the studio for one last chat.
