FLASHBACK: CBC VCR DRAGONBOAT TEAM 1993

PHOTO FLASHBACK
CBC Vancouver Dragonboat Team 1993

Our Photo Flashback was sent in by Angela Nash and features the 1993 CBC Dragonboat Team, of which she and Chris Cutress were the team Captains; i.e., Chris was Coach and Angela, Manager.  This was the second year in which they had managed the team christened “The Airwaves” by previous team Coach and Manager, Joe Battista and Louella Quan Charlston.  Chris Cutress organized all the practice times with the coaches and Angela raised money to fund paying coaching fees, uniforms and the entry fee into the event.  She also organized the entry forms, team uniforms and, as Angela put it, “all that jazz”.  The terrific t-shirt dragon logo was designed by Karen Travers and was also used for glass coffee mugs.  The design was a great hit and orders came in from CBC all across Canada for them as well as from local supporters.  Angela noted that the team was a mixed bunch of people from just about every department within CBC Vancouver and included both union and management staff.

Angela Nash declared that she quite accidentally became a member of CBC staff on November 14, 1977 … she was working part-time, looking for full-time and dropped her resume off at various business buildings along Georgia Street including the Turf Building.  When the call came from CBC Human Resources requesting that she come in for an interview, Angela was taken completely by surprise as she had not realized CBC had offices there.  The happy result was a Senior Clerk position in the Finance Department.  Angela also served as CUPE President at CBC for many years.  She retired on March 31, 1993.l In retirement, Angela taught computer courses at Sunshine Pavilion Seniors’ Centre in Surrey – primarily on use of e-mail and Excel – and prior to her husband Pete’s retirement, joined two golf clubs and was on the course on Tuesdays and Thursdays which she loved.  She enjoyed 5-pin bowling and lawn bowling and was actively involved in the CBC 20 Year Association Board (now the CBC.SRC Association) for some years, first as a Member-at-Large, then Vice-President and President, serving four terms in the latter role.

Where possible, the position the person held in 1993 has been included as gleaned from the 1993 CBC Vancouver Internal Telephone Directory.
